Starting August 12th, Nintendo will be lowering the price of the Nintendo 3DS from $249.99 to $169.99. This $80 price drop will not be met with disdain from current owners of the 3DS, however, as Nintendo has promised to release 20 free games to the early Nintendo 3DS adopters in a move they call the “Ambassador Program”.

These 20 games are a combination of 10 free NES games, including: Super Mario Bros, Ice Climbers, Legend of Zelda, Ballon Fight, and Donkey Kong Jr. and 10 free GBA games including: Super Mario Advance 3: Yoshi’s Island, Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Metroid Fusion, Mario vs. Donkey Kong, and Wario Ware: Microgames Inc. In order to redeem these games, the 3DS must be taken online and activated in the Nintendo eShop by August 11th at 11:59:59 PM. The games will be available starting September 1st and will gradually release until the end of the year.

This means that any person not owning a 3DS before August 12th will be able to buy the first dedicated glasses-free 3D video gaming system in history for only $169.99. With a promising line-up including Kid Icarus: Uprising, Mario Kart 7, Super Mario 3DLand, Star Fox 64 3D, Sonic Generations, and more releasing by year’s end, the 3DS price falls in line with the Nintendo DSi XL.

In an unprecedented statement, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata has commented on the situation saying, “First, since the launch of Nintendo 3DS, one of the things we have learned is that it has taken longer than we had originally expected in order for the appeal of this product to widely spread. We feel that those who have experienced the system appreciate its attraction, but this appreciation has not necessarily been expanding at the speed which we had expected. For us to maximize the effect of the anticipated titles of this year end, it is necessary to greatly expand the installed base (before the launches of the anticipated titles) so that the appeal of the new software will be able to spread to consumers in a short period of time. Without creating such a circumstance, we would not be able to realize explosive sales in the year-end sales season. This is one reason for the markdown.” For more information on Iwata’s briefing, please click here.

For the second time since the Xbox 360 was released in 2005, Microsoft will be changing how you access your content on the system. Gone are the days of the Dashboard, and now gone will be the days of the New Xbox Experience. Say hello to the Newer Xbox Experience.

Keeping with Kinect compatibility as well as a move towards unification across Windows, Windows Phone, and Xbox Live, the new dashboard actually appears to be similar in appearance to Windows Live Tiles, with a bit of the Playstation’s XMB thrown in for safety.

Launching this holiday season for all Xbox owners, check a video out right here:

Nintendo just announced the Wii U, a new console/controller combo that includes a large, touchscreen controller with control buttons similar to those found on current Wii controllers. The system is considerably upgraded over the Wii and you can use the Wii U controller in many “unique” (hence the U) ways.

The graphics are truly next-gen and this firmly places Nintendo in with the big boys in terms of graphics and gameplay.

If anything can be said about this new console its that it has moved the Wii out of the kids’ room and into the living room. The games are actually quite mature including Aliens: Colonial Marines, Ghost Recon, and many titles, including Ninja Gaiden are arriving on the Wii U in a new, considerably better and bloodier form.

The controller has a standard touchscreen with rumble and axis sensors. You can, for example, send a game to the controller and change the channel on the television to watch something else entirely. This allows kids to play while parents are watching the ball game and it also allows adults to play privately on the couch while the significant other watches something else. It is truly a third-screen gaming experience.

You can also handle play calls in sports games and inventory control right on the controller, saving space on the main screen for full-screen graphics. There are accelerometers and a gyro so you can use it as an aiming device, and it can detect its orientation. The screen even appears to be writeable using a pen seen in the video.

I, for one, am impressed. I’ve historically been down on Nintendo as greasy kid’s stuff but this is something different.

The Wii U will arrive in 2012.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D is a must-have single player Action-Adventure game for the Nintendo 3DS. A reimagining of the original Nintendo 64 classic, the game features the full original game graphically overhauled in the glasses-free 3D made possible by the Nintendo 3DS. Along with this, the game includes all-new new challenges unique to this release, including a master quest, a new Boss Challenge mode that allows for flexibility in how you face bosses and in-game video segments.

A N64 Classic Returns in 3D

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D takes the best-reviewed game of all-time for a brand-new experience. Now in 3D, all of the graphic textures and colors have been vastly improved, taking advantage of the considerable graphic power of the Nintendo 3DS system. This game tells the epic story of Hyrule and Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf in remarkable depth and gives context to the many tales of their struggles. As such, this title represents a perfect entry point for players new to the Zelda franchise.

Phenomenally Improved Graphics

Beyond even the incredible 3D effect, every graphic texture and character model has been lovingly built from the ground up to create the most dynamic and vivid vision of Zelda’s kingdom yet. This is Hyrule as you’ve always imagined it.

Playing the Ocarina

Link needs to play the eponymous Ocarina of Time many, many times over the course of the game. This involves a specific series of button presses to play one of the twelve songs in the game. In the original title, you would need to assign the ocarina to an item slot, then likely review the button prompts to your song, then play them from memory. The Nintendo 3DS version has the ocarina constantly available on the Touch Screen, and playing with the button prompts for each song right in front of you.

Enhanced Gameplay

While the greatest care has been taken to preserve the classic gameplay and story, a number of new features make this the definitive version of this extraordinary game:

Touch-screen Accessibility - With a revamped interface designed to take advantage of the Nintendo 3DS system’s dual screens, navigating menus and switching items is amazingly fast and intuitive.
Motion Control – New feature for first-person mode is that, in addition to using the Circle Pad to look around, you can also physically move your Nintendo 3DS system around. This makes aiming much faster and more responsive, since adjustments are made as fast as you can move. With Link, aiming your slingshot or bow is much faster and more accurate.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D takes the best-reviewed game of all time for a brand-new experience. Now in 3D all of the graphic textures and colors have been vastly improved, taking advantage of the considerable graphic power of the Nintendo 3DS system. This game tells the epic story of Hyrule and Link™, Zelda™, and Ganondorf in remarkable depth and gives context to the many tales of their struggles. As such, this title represents a perfect entry point for players new to the Zelda franchise. Phenomenally Improved Graphics Beyond even the incredible 3D effect, every graphic texture and character model has been lovingly built from the ground up to create the most dynamic and vivid vision of Zelda’s kingdom yet. This is Hyrule as you’ve always imagined it. Playing the Ocarina Link needs to play the eponymous Ocarina of Time many, many times over the course of the game. Enhanced Game play While the greatest care has been taken to preserve the classic game play and story, a number of new features make this the definitive version of this extraordinary game.

Duke Nukem Forever is a First-Person Shooter (FPS) that finally resurrects the infamous Duke Nukem franchise. Designed as a blend of the over-the-top ego, humor, risqué scenarios and un-PC attitude that players of the original 1990s PC game releases will still relish, with for technological upgrades that modern gamers demand, Duke is definitely back and better than ever. Features include: a gameworld full of interactive opportunities; over-the-top humor; outlandish settings, vehicle driving, and puzzle solving; Duke specific multiplayer modes and more.

Heroes Come and Go, But a King Reigns Forever

Did the Alien bastards not learn their lesson the first time? Duke has been on hiatus for some time now, kicking back and franchising himself on the fame he gained from saving Earth from the first invasion. The Aliens have returned to Earth yet again, messing up Duke’s sweet routine of dirty leisure habits. The Alien invaders are stealing Earth’s women, especially the hot ones! And they drank Duke’s beer. This-Won’t-Stand. As Duke battles his way through waves of aliens, the once beautiful gambling haven and Duke Nukem franchise chains are crumbling before his eyes. Time to bring the pain

Duke Nukem is one of the biggest and most recognizable brands in gaming history. Irreverent, UN-PC, and uber-Macho, Duke Nukem is the perfect antidote to the overdose of today’s clichéd gaming archetypes. The game’s cocktail of alien invasion, busty babes, bawdy comedy and big guns never gets old. The highly anticipated Duke Nukem Forever is a celebration of what video games are really about: an out loud good time. The game is huge, with hours and hours of over-the-top single player action, and a range of bodacious multiplayer modes like Duke Match, Capture the Babe and Hail to the king, players can rest assured knowing that the fun will last.

Key Game Features
Ego, and Then Some - Step into the shoes of Duke Nukem, the steroidal one-man army who never fails and always gets the babes.
Bust-a-Gut – Duke pulls no punches. He does and says the things you are thinking. Duke’s constant stream of hilarious one-liners throughout the game will have gamers rolling.
World Interactivity – Spend as much time as you want shooting hoops, lifting weights, playing pinball, pool, air hockey, and slots.
Scale and Variety – This game has it all — packed with explosive FPS action, outlandish settings, vehicle driving, and puzzle solving — gamers will never tire of the endless fun.
Multiplayer Like No Other - Duke re-envisions classic modes of play in his own hilarious and humiliating way. Shrink your opponent and squash him with your foot. Freeze and shatter him. Attach explosives to his back. Roll a pipe bomb between his legs, or just frag him old-fashioned with a rocket.

Put on your sunglasses and prepare to step into the boots of Duke Nukem, whose legend has reached epic proportions in the years since his last adventure. The alien hordes are back and only Duke can save the world, again. Pig cops, alien shrink rays and enormous alien bosses won’t stop our hero from accomplishing his one and only goal: to save the world, save the babes and to be a badass while doing it. The King of All Shooters is back with over-the-top weapons, massive aliens and unprecedented levels of interactivity. This game puts pedal to the metal and tongue firmly in cheek, among other places. Shoot hoops, lift weights, read adult magazines, draw crude messages on whiteboards or ogle one of the many beautiful women that populate Duke’s life; that is if you can pull yourself away long enough from kicking ass and taking names. Duke Nukem was and will forever be immortalized in gaming history, and this is his legend. Experience the action and creativity derived from the pedigree of one of gaming’s most innovative and respected developers.

Duke Nukem Forever can be yours on June 14th for $59.99 on the Playstation 3 or Xbox 360.

After 25 days of waiting, it appears that Sony is relaunching the Playstation Network and Qriocity services today. Starting with firmware 3.61 that requires a password change, the service is in a rollout phase nationwide.

“If using a PS3, your password can only be changed on your own PS3 (or a PS3 on which your PSN account was activated), as an added layer of security,” said VP of Sony Network Entertainment Eric Lempel on the Playstation Blog.

Patrick Seybold, Sr. Director of Corporate Communications and Social Media went on to say, “Please note that these services will take a bit of time to be turned on and rolled out to the whole country. The process has begun and some states are being turned on now, so please be patient as we reach your city and state. We’ll be updating the map below as service comes online in individual states. It will take several hours to restore PSN throughout the entire country, so please keep checking back for the latest updates. In the meantime, now’s a great time to get your PS3’s firmware updated and change your password, both of which are required to get online.”
